How to Store Chocolates So They Stay Fresh (Even in Summer)
MERNify Mart Team 1 min read

Bangladesh summers are hard on chocolate. A bar left on the table can melt in minutes, and even in the fridge it can turn dull or get white spots. Follow these simple rules and your chocolates will taste the way they should.
The best temperature
Chocolate is happiest at 16–20°C, away from sunlight and strong smells. If your room is cooler than 25°C, a dark cupboard is fine.
Should you keep chocolate in the fridge?
In hot months — yes, but wrap it well. Put the chocolate in an airtight box or zip bag so it does not absorb moisture or smells from other food.
- Keep it in the middle shelf, not the door.
- Take it out 10–15 minutes before eating so the flavour comes back.
- Never freeze chocolates with fillings or nuts — the texture changes.
What are the white spots?
That is called bloom. It happens when sugar or fat rises to the surface after a temperature change. It is safe to eat, but the taste and texture are not as good. Steady storage prevents it.
How long does chocolate last?
- Dark chocolate: up to 12 months
- Milk chocolate: 8–10 months
- White chocolate and filled bars: 4–6 months
Always check the best-before date on the pack.
